I've done 1000+ installs drilling through roofs and have never seen water damage due to our work. With good application of sealant, in the hole and between the surfaces a bit before driving a lag, and making sure to hit studs where needed, installs won't leak unless a really strong storm blows them apart, and in that case it's not your problem.
