Normal “plow-con” 1.25” ID conduit is made from high density polyethelyene.
And so far, I believe the NEC is not yet covering us.

Subject: [AFMUG] Poly well pipe as conduit

A customer ran 1600' of polyethelyne water pipe instead of a conduit for a
fiber drop cable. He asked me before hand if it was ok, and I said "It doesn't
bother me, but check with code enforcement to make sure it's ok." I had
assumed code would tell him to get a conduit instead of a water pipe. He says
they told him it was fine.

I could direct bury the cable, so it truly doesn't matter to me what the type
of pipe/conduit is. I'm just surprised that it wouldn't be an issue for code
enforcement. My belief is that fiber optic cables are within the scope of NEC
and that NEC calls for listed conduit. Am I mistaken?
