You only have two options, if it is hermetically sealed then it does not need a drain. A casting like that with the seals it has should be hermetically sealed. Obviously it is not. Or it is defective.
So the other choice is a decent drain hole with something in it to keep bugs out. Screen works. I have seen a stainless steel type of steel wool used.
