I just made the same mistake this week myself with one of these passive injectors that was powering a couple AF5X radios. http://www.l-com.com/power-over-ethernet-4-port-cat6-passive-gigabit-midspan-injector
I re-crimped the CAT5e a couple times at the top of the tower because I suspected a bad crimp due to radios not powering up and after a couple times of crimping the end (while power was applied to the injector) I plugged the end into one of the AF5X radios and immediately "majic smoke" started to roll out of the radio's Ethernet port. I think the injector somehow is shorted internally from crimping the ends while power was applied and now every radio that I plug into the injectector will loose its Ethernet port although it will still power the radio.
