The thing I really like about the Roomba is its ability to get under couches and other furniture. I have mostly hardwood floor throughout and dust bunnies accumulate in odd places. It is pretty good at picking the dirt at the base molding along the walls too. And it seems to be great on carpets. So far so good.
I read up on it a bit, it has essentially an optical mouse built into the bottom that is watching the floor to get its dead reckoning data. It corrects for drift with an upward looking camera that finds optical landmarks. Maybe there will be an update for it, but I'm not going to hold my breath as Hoover offered to give me a credit towards another Hoover product. However that's useless as we already have a good regular vacuum and we got their $400 model for $200 and the $600 model isn't significantly different, so now we go to the $1,000 model and I'm not spending $800 to give Hoover another try. ----- Mike Hammett Intelligent Computing Solutions Midwest Internet Exchange The Brothers WISP -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "Chuck McCown" <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Saturday, July 22, 2017 10:05:43 PM Subject: [AFMUG] OT Roomba Got my wife a Roomba for Mother’s day. The first one only worked for 20 minutes before going on the fritz. Been watching the replacement do its thing. Seems pretty smart. However it did ship with software that was about a year old. It is supposed to automatically update itself.
