Never could get my kids to spar much with me. Just a little bit. One son landed a good one on my jaw once and I think it bothered him so much that he would never join me again. To me it was fun. A bit of a zap on the chin just jacks up the fun a bit.
In real life, fights with an equal adversary always ended up on the ground/floor rolling around in a wrestling punchfest. Fights with someone unaccustomed to such things ended up vertical with the other person fleeing at some point. Thankfully never had a fight with anyone that was clearly much better than me. Got sucker punched by a kid I was taunting once, that is about as close to an ass kicking I ever got. Those were the days... we even had boxing practice during PE at school.... I was taught by my dad and later Mr. Compean before I took formal lessons with Cliff Thomas. I recommend boxing for footwork, head movement , slipping and parrying, judo/jujitsu/wrestling for dealing with bigger and stronger opponents , muay Thai for leg kicks,..karate for kicks to knee and shin....they have defended themselves well when needed. His stance kept him from digging in punches. His instincts go back to defending leg kicks or shooting... Mayweather would be on mat within seconds and choked out against a competent MMA fighter, even a collegiate wrestler would take him down easily. Different discipline. Many MMA and PKA fighters have transitioned to boxing...Troy Dorsey , Jessica Han and her brother, ..very few boxers have made into MMA. If you want to see an early boxing versus Judo match watch Gene LaBells fight 1962-63?? He choked out boxer.. Still, not bad for an 0-0 fighter fighting one of the best of all time. Floyd put on a show, no doubt. Very methodical. What a master of his craft. How long would Floyd last in the octagon? Maybe a minute. Maybe a little more, maybe less. I'm excited about Canelo v GGG, and Bisping vs GSP!
