I believe the Yamaha EF1000i and 2000i are dual rectifier alternators.

True DC generators are not seen much.
Alternators have slip rings which last far longer than commutators.

Aren't all "inverter generators" technically DC generators in the first place? They have to run whatever they produce through an inverter in order to produce 110, or 220 AC.

I would poke into one to see what feeds into the inverter in the first place.
