That's my philosophy as well. 5% is sufficient I think. You can try to explain packet headers and other overhead, or just give them a little bump and avoid having to field the question.

I have always bumped them up by 5-10% to do our best to ensure that the customer gets more than we promised. Saves a lot of explaining on the phone!

It's not dependent on the laptop being in good working condition, free of malware, good ethernet chipset, etc.

But to play devil's advocate here....you can get a pretty decent laptop for what that tool seems to cost. Seems to be about $1000 based on my initial Google shopping search. Maybe you pay less in real life.

Exfo has a new tester that works with ookla.

We just got one to try this morning.

This is a 1 Gig test.

Spot on when you net out the TCP/IP and other overheads.
