Interesting... yeah match up the short walls with each other. That little area that is routed out is a section of lower frequency ridged waveguide. Not totally sure what it is doing, probably some kind of high pass or low pass filter effect. There are all kind of choke flange tricks different companies use to get a tiny bit of better performance.
