BIG BROTHER AFRICA CROSS-MEDIA JOB OPPORTUNITIES Big Brother Africa is set to hit DStv screens across Africa by the end of May 2003. Underdog Productions is looking for creative writers to join their Cross-Media Team. Suitable applicants from all over Africa, able to join the production team at M-Net's offices in Randburg, should apply before the end of March 2003. Cross-Media Content Creator Do you want to work on the Big Brother Africa project, writing stories, moderating streaming content, managing interactive media, creating content for the official website and liasing with viewers, fans and online community members over a variety of media? Underdog Productions is looking for several Cross-Media Content Creators to assist them on BB Africa. You will be part of the Cross-Media Team, working in an exciting and vibey environment (at M-Net). The successful candidate should be able to: . Write and create articles and content for the BB Africa online presence and cross-media applications; . Report on happenings in and around the BB Africa show; . Efficiently use popular writing (MS Word) and photo-editing (Photoshop, etc.) software; . Write and repurpose content for a variety of interactive media (e.g. DStv enhanced content); . Log the activities of the Housemates; . Manage tight deadlines and diverse content across the different media; . Utilise a web-based user-interface; . Manage and control the flow of text messages on a "live" platform - a crucial task with significant responsibilities and consequences; . Reply to comments/criticism flowing in from various sources; . Communicate clearly over electronic media (email and phone); . Select feedback from the public (e.g. online forums) and moderate some of this content, and regularly report on public feedback received; . Thrive on criticism and cope swimmingly with possible abuse from the public; . Cope amidst chaos, which includes last-minute briefings, restrictions on turnaround time, and accurately following instructions; . Work under the direction of a shift sub-editor and other senior staff. General computer literacy and Internet savvy a must, but training on specific applications will be provided. Applicants must be excellent English (creative and journalistic) writers, with the ability to create articles under extremely tight deadlines. Accuracy, self-proofing and high levels of spelling and grammar proficiencies are vital. Due to the nature of this project - covering twelve Housemates from twelve different African countries - job applicants who originate from African countries, or with extensive knowledge of Africa, will be given preference. To further allow for the diversity of the production team, affirmative action will also be a selection criterion. All applicants will however require valid SA work permits or South African ID documents. This is a 4-month (full time) contract, to start on the 17th of May 2003. The successful candidate should be able to: . Edit material created by the Cross-Media Content Creators in line with the show's editorial direction; . Understand and follow briefs from the Cross-Media Editor and other Senior personnel; . Take creative input and criticism; . Ensure that published material is in keeping with the show's 'format', and is of the highest possible technical and creative standards; . Be a manager and team leader, dealing with 'creative types', deadlines, team morale, 'egos', diversity, etc.; . Write and create articles and content for the BB Africa online presence and cross-media applications; . Report on happenings in and around the BB Africa show; .
