African Cinema Conference presents...
Documentary film makers Jahmil X.T Qubeka (Q') and Mandilakhe Mjekula of DC
Studios were commissioned by SABC 1 to produce a 48 minute documentary
showcasing a boys journey to manhood. The film entitled 'Qula Kwedini' - A
rite of passage is to be screened at The 5th Encounters documentary film
festival from next week. The Encounters Laboratory facilitated the
development of the project.
Although ritual circumcision is a very controversial topic, 'Qula Kwedini' -
A rite of passage deals with the issue on a very personal level, and takes
the viewer on a journey of self realisation.
Screening times as follows:
Cape Town - Saturday 26th July @ 9:15pm Cinema Nouveau V&A Waterfront
Cape Town - Friday 1st August @ 6:15pm Cinema Nouveau V&A Waterfront
Johannesburg - Friday 8th of August @ 6pm Cinema Nouveau Rosebank
