African Cinema Conference presents...
    SEEKING PUBLICITY AND PROMOTION MANAGER

California Newsreel, the country's oldest not-for-profit documentary
distribution and production center, seeks a full-time Publicity and
Promotion Manager to coordinate and implement proven marketing
strategies for its film and video releases. This position reports to the
co-director of the organization.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

ˇ writing and editing press releases, catalogs and brochures for
direct-mail campaigns
ˇ disseminating information about new releases to the public and
appropriate constituencies
ˇ identifying, arranging and attending academic conference screenings,
presentations, and exhibitions
ˇ managing design, printing and production of promotional pieces
ˇ working with journalists and the academic press to place reviews,
articles and notices
ˇ networking with and outreaching to professional associations and
community associations
ˇ soliciting endorsements from scholars, notables, and appropriate
organizations
ˇ working with co-directors to develop new strategies and avenues for
marketing

PRODUCTION.

Qualifications:

Applicants should demonstrate a lifelong involvement and knowledge of
African American life and history as well as a commitment to progressive
ideals. He or she must have at least three year's experience doing
public relations, marketing, publications or outreach for a
well-established company or not-for-profit agency. Excellent writing and
communication skills, good organization, good teamwork, PC-proficiency
(Word, Excel, Explorer), and attention to detail are essential.

Good graphic design skills, including familiarity with page layout
programs, Photoshop, and Web design, are a plus. Creativity, initiative,
interest in social issue documentary, familiarity with institutional,
educational and academic markets, and knowledge of relevant subject
areas are also helpful.

Salary:
