SHORT BIO:
Liza Laziza is a highly accomplished and well respected Oriental Dancer and Master
Instructor, who has graced the stagesof Europe, Australia, North Africa, the Middle
East, and the U.S.A.

She has been living and working in Cairo, Egypt for the past five years and has
established herself as one of the top, and most requested performers there. Her
passionate and elegant style, plus her deep understanding and interpretation of
Oriental music has solidified her reputation, internationally, as among the best in
the world.

Liza has performed for such dignitaries as King Hussein and Queen Nour of
Jordan, the King and Queen of Malaysia, the Brunei Royal Family, Prince Charles,
George and Barbara Bush, the Saudi Royal Family, as well as
numerous celebrities, and captivated audiences around the world.

Liza was born in Iran and raised in England. She began her professional Oriental
dance career in Paris, where she had the great opportunity to work with the most well
known musicians, including Hassan Abu Soud, a istinguished according player and
reknowned Oriental music composer, and his brother, Ahmed Abu Soud who was Dina's
drummer for the past 10 years.

Liza believes her innate talent for the dance is partly from her Iranian heritage.
Liza Laziza feels in her soul that it was her destiny to be a dancer, she is
passionate about her work, and it shows in her performances. Liza's words of wisdom
about the dance, "Technique is not enough. It is the feeling and understanding of the
music that moves and touches the audience, in as much as the dancer, herself, feels
and understands."

"...You are a lake with a channel to the Sea:
be ashamed to seek water from a pool"

Rumi

RHYTHM IS THE CURE
HANDS-ON TAMBOURINE & FRAME DRUM WORKSHOP
Tuesday November 2, 2004 at 7:30-9:30PM
Admission: $20
Performed by Alessandra Belloni

We are very happy to welcome Alessandra Belloni for a workshop at Bang a Drum. I have
seen her perform several times and her frame drumming technique is awesome!

Alessandra is the only woman in America (and in Italy) who uses this powerful
tambourine style combined with the singing and dancing, and she's very proud to be
able to bring this ancient healing women tradition back to life. She's also a REMO
Artist, with her own line of signature series tambourines made by REMO.

The purpose of this workshop is to introduce general audiences to a very rich
tambourine and folk dance culture with an active current performance practice in
Southern Italy and also to bring women back in touch with their lost tradition
of drumming.

During the percussion workshop, the participants will learn:
* The basic technique of holding the drum, with emphasis on arm movement, wrist
and elbow technique, which requires a lot of strength, to create the bouncing
sound of the triplets.
* Hand technique with the palm and the fingertips in both a basic and accented
fast 6/8 rhythm.
* Tammorriata a 4/4 rhythm played on the large drum called the Tammorra,
originally from Naples with a strong African influence in the rhythm.

Call (323) 936-3274 to register.

We played at this beautiful restaurant in Pasadena a month ago and it was
lovely: great sound, system, great food, great vibes, and us providing the jazzy
vibes for dining. I'll be performing with Andre Manga (bass), Jason Hann
(drums) and Roberto Montero (guitar). Pasadena is not really THAT far away! Come
and join us!
