Come see this electrifying female percussion and vocal group perform!
ADAAWE is seven dynamic, diverse women creating rich organic music of the voice
and drum,
which comes from the heart and speaks to the soul!
These beautiful and skilled percussionists and vocalists come from all over the
world, and
their music is an international fusion of African music and rhythms, R&B/pop
vocals,
arresting Gospel vocal harmonies, and funky original creations. ADAAWE brings
audiences to
their feet with high energy djembe drumming, opens their minds with poetic
lyrics and
hypnotizes them with the traditional women's music of West Africa. ADAAWE's
music is a
healing force propelled by the power of women's voices and the communication of
the drum.
ADAAWE brings world music to the mainstream, African drums to pop culture, and
meaning
back to music. In this challenging time in our world's history, intercultural
understanding and
celebration of diversity is more important than ever.

*About Nzingha Camara:*

Dance brings people to their feet as does Nzingha Camara, dancer, educator,
artist and choreographer whose illustrious career spans across the globe and
over three decades. Her spirit has inspired motivated and instilled a sense
of grace and pride in individuals from the villages of West Africa to the
far shores of the Caribbean over to Europe and of course the United States.
Branded with the name of a magnificent African queen, Camara's sacred feet
and poise live up to her legacy, having converted challenging dance moves
into articulate expressions and fluid movements of art. From 1995 to
2001* *Camara
served as a member of the faculty in UCLA's World Arts & Cultures department
where her classes became the most attended in the entire Dance
department. Over
the years Camara has become somewhat of a cultural ambassador, she has gone
on to teach some of the most prominent dancers around the country and has
conducted master workshops in such far off places as China, Costa Rica and
Germany to name a few. Millions of people have been affected by her work,
exceeding even her own expectations. Having graced the cover of some of the
most prominent dance magazines in the country and orchestrating performances
for some of Hollywood's crème de la crème, her prodigious talent knows no
limits. She remains steadfast to preserving the culture of her craft and
carrying on the legacy of West African dance within her community.

*"Nzingha Camara is one of the most gifted and treasured artists in dance
theatre today. I've had the privilege of sharing the stage with her in
productions, which range from Motown's 30th Anniversary Special to our
annual production of The Chocolate Nutcracker…. Her unique background and
education in dance makes her an invaluable find, a true resource for
authenticity…I am pleased to say that Nzingha teaches her own class within
The Debbie Allen Dance Academy (DADA). She has an amazing following and her
artistry deserves to be supported by those who embrace the arts as a way to
stimulate creativity and humanity…. and beyond her expertise, she is a kind
patient and loving human being. " **Debbie Allen*

7. Rough cut from movie "Once Upon a Time in The Congo"
Posted by: "Said Kakese Dibinga" [EMAIL PROTECTED] drcsaid
Date: Fri Apr 20, 2007 7:35 pm ((PDT))

Hello,

How are you? I hope that all is well...

This is Said Kakese Dibinga, I’ve received a massive amount of email
questions about the film “Once Upon a time in the Congo” of which I'm the
writer/producer. We've completed a test shoot that's still being worked on
(editing, credits, composing original music, etc.).

With permission from the director, I've posted a link so that you can see the
rough, unfinished version (if it doesn't work, you can cut and paste into the
toolbar) it should start automatically...

http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoID=2023642467

Enjoy and thank you for your support...

  Take care,

9. Group rates for Camp Fareta, Central CA: July 8-15, 2007
Posted by: "Christina Tuccillo" [EMAIL PROTECTED] ncdcdancer
Date: Fri Apr 20, 2007 7:35 pm ((PDT))

hey there, dancers and drummers --

We've decided to set up group rates for Camp Fareta, Youssouf's camp in
central California, and here's how it goes:

Any group of 8 or more adults who register for the full camp may take $35 off
the fee for the full week provided they meet the following criteria:

-They register together, meaning the payment for 8 adults is sent in the same
envelope (not necessarily all on the same check).
-They must all be from the same "area," such as the following: Seattle area,
Los Angeles, Santa Cruz, San Diego, San Francisco Bay Area, Garberville/Arcata,
Grass Valley/Chico/Sacramento, Sebastopol/Mendocino, Salt Lake City/Utah,
Denver/Boulder, Eugene/Ashland/Portland, Arizona in general, New Mexico in
general, or the east coast.
-Those who are staying in a cabin (not a tent) will be housed in the same
cabin.

(If you have a friend who lives out in the middle of nowhere and would like
to join your group, just ask and we'll see what we can work out.)

Rates go up after May 15, so now's the time to be making your plans! Check
Youssouf's website, westafricandance.com, if you need more information about
camp.

  thanks and be well --

  christina
