Thanks Andrew, for your ideas and info.

I'll take the opportunity to pass on the following information re
other localizations in Africa in 2004, and to invite interested
readers to join the A12n-forum...

There were a number of announcements in 2004 concerning localization
of software - both Microsoft and open-source - in African languages.

** Microsoft: Swahili and Wolof **

Anyanzwa, James. 2004. "Microsoft Launches Kiswahili Edition." East
African Standard, Oct. 29, 2004.
http://allafrica.com/stories/200410280925.html

Agence de Presse Sngalaise (APS). 2004. "Microsoft s'engage
traduire ses logiciels en Wolof (Officiel)." APS 25-10-04.

** Open-source software **

Translate.org.za localized for Zulu, Sepedi and Afrikaans (see
http://translate.org.za )

Kilinux localized for Swahili (see http://www.kilinux.org )

A browser was localized in Luganda:
Otter, Alistair. 2004. "Uganda gets indigenous language browser."
Tectonic, Sept. 15, 2004.
