I am again not sure what you are saying There are reasons to use conceptual components. They can be expressed with generalized symbols (like words) which can be narrowed down using other generalized symbols. This means that you do not have to have a separate name for everything. Using general terms means that the vocabulary can be kept to thousands of words instead of billions of words. Occam's Razor does not dismiss ideas at the outset. A dismissive attitude does not lead to a greater insight just because it is a simpler way to deal with an idea that seems different. Instead of thinking about conceptual components we can also think of conceptual factors. In fact this can help clarify some problems. We use terms that modify other terms. The conceptual 'factors', whether you mean facts, or algebraic operations, would not interact with every other conceptual factors in just the same way for every possible case. Here is another way that appeals to simplicity (like talking about weighted or binary functions) can be misleading. Even if some conceptual factors are weighted or are binary, the fact that they would not interact with other conceptual factors in just the same way as all other interacting conceptual factor suggests that there is something more than Boolean Logic or weighted averaging going on. Arithmetic can almost be described using Boolean Logic. But, there are some properties of numerical arithmetic that are special. The fact that it can (for most practical purposes) be expressed in terms of Boolean Logic does not mean that it is* just* Boolean Logic. Arithmetic is something special. Jim Bromer
