Alan,

I have a design concept for a digitally programmed analog computer chip capable of the bidirectional sorts of computing that neurons do. Think Xylinx, but with analog "gates" instead of digital gates embedded therein.

Back when I was a wee little kid, Ok when I was searching for colleges in the mid-90s, before the information shockwave hit me, I was really hyped about hybrid computing... Hey, why not combine the best parts of analog and digital computation?!?!

No, digital is king...

There are still a few signal processing apps where, instead of going the digital route, you can save yourself a hundred parts and programming effort and cost by using an opamp or two and a transistor... You'll need a 5-star engineer but you'll end up with a medium-performance device that runs nice and smooth and is incredibly reliable.

But for AGI purposes, this is the age of digital. Yeah, it might not be as much fun but that's the way it is. =\
