I subscribe to Science magazine. I occasionally read Futurism. I get news from CNN, Fox, Twitter, BBC, Al Jazeera, South China Morning Post, and a lot of other sources so I have a world view of the world. I don't read encode.su anymore since I haven't done any work in data compression for about 5 years now. I don't follow most of the AGI forums like Lesswrong since I'm not trying to build one. In fact nobody is. There used to be a lot of people on this list with AGI projects, but they have either abandoned their projects, or this list, or both.
AGI is expensive. It seems like the companies making progress have trillion dollar market caps. Yeah, it would be cool to find the universal learning algorithm that would automate all human labor, or upload your mind to a robot, or launch a friendly singularity. But really, you're not.
