Manthey defines "Consciousness" as "Awareness of awareness." He operationalizes "awareness" with something he calls "The Topsy Test For Awareness <http://www.rootsofunity.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/TopsyTest-2013.pdf>" in the aforelinked paper by that name. I'm not going to claim to grok it just yet.
