Well, you can feed DeSTIN input from a webcam and it forms internal
states based on what it sees...
However, the usefulness of its internal states has so far only been
tested on smaller-scale applications like character recognition...
A similar (but proprietary) system, built by Itamar's company, has
been used for various commercial & gov't object recognition
applications...
Our goal is to use it for robot vision, initially in indoor
environments (indoor because of movement issues with reasonably-priced
mobile robots, not because of vision limitations)
