Alan, Regarding "years ago", I published similar ideas to these in an article in Complexity magazine in 1998... similar text is here in my book From Complexity to Creativity from way back then...
http://www.goertzel.org/books/complex/ch3.html There is more knowledge now about the brain but it fits into the same basic picture I envisioned then (which does indeed echo the ideas of a minority of neuroscientists...) Now as then, I don't advocate brain science as a direct guide to AGI; I think we still don't know enough about the brain for that to make sense... Me publishing some thoughts on neuroscience doesn't mean my AGI approach is moving toward brain emulation. If OpenCog goes sufficiently slowly and neuroscience advanced specifically quickly, I *might* switch to a brain emulation approach to AGI at some future point, but I'm far from at that point right now ;) ... ben On Fri, Jul 20, 2012 at 1:45 PM, Alan Grimes <[email protected]> wrote: > Ben Goertzel wrote: >> Pretty high level, but here goes... > >> http://hplusmagazine.com/2012/07/20/how-the-brain-works/ > > It's fun to watch your ideas slowly mutate in an unacknowledged weighted > random-walk way towards correct solutions others came up with years ago. =) > > -- > E T F > N H E > D E D > > Powers are not rights. > > > > > > ------------------------------------------- > AGI > Archives: https://www.listbox.com/member/archive/303/=now > RSS Feed: https://www.listbox.com/member/archive/rss/303/212726-11ac2389 > Modify Your Subscription: https://www.listbox.com/member/?& > Powered by Listbox: http://www.listbox.com -- Ben Goertzel, PhD http://goertzel.org "My humanity is a constant self-overcoming" -- Friedrich Nietzsche ------------------------------------------- AGI Archives: https://www.listbox.com/member/archive/303/=now RSS Feed: https://www.listbox.com/member/archive/rss/303/21088071-c97d2393 Modify Your Subscription: https://www.listbox.com/member/?member_id=21088071&id_secret=21088071-2484a968 Powered by Listbox: http://www.listbox.com
