Mike,

Beautiful. But this time I caught you. You said "reconstructs." Reconstructing
requires logic, and conclusions. And you also said "blowing them up", se he is
looking for more information. You also said "step by step." That would be the
draw-conclusiions/learn-some-more part. Antonioni has given a beatiful example
for my theory.

Subject: [agi] An Example of Imaginative Reasoning

For most here, I ahem imagine that imaginative reasoning is something v.
difficult to wrap your imaginations around.

There is a beautiful metacognitive example, well worth looking at – precisely
because it allows you to see imaginative reasoning in action.

And that is the classic “murder scene” and photographic reconstruction in
Antonioni’s movie, Blow-Up.

A photographer witnesses two lovers playing around in a park – takes lots of
photos of them – & then is chased away.

Later on in his studio, he starts looking at the photos and blowing them up –
and step by step, reconstructs that a murder took place in that park.

It is all done without words. Or even logic.

That is imaginative reasoning, and that is how the mind actually works to solve
real world problems.
