Matt, Your answer is confusing. We're only talking here about language not
the whole of AGI. And you - along with many if not most others - do talk of
language mainly as textual processing, no matter whether you understand it
as more than that.
I'm striving here to get the best definition of what language use entails -
and to correct the insanity of so many AGI-ers' approach to language
(including Ben's).
Defining it as EMBODIED SIMULATION (/ENACTING) of language/CONCEPTS strikes
me - at this point in time - as a useful corrective to the TEXTUAL
PROCESSING/DECODING philosophy of language.

If you persist in thinking of language/conceptual thinking as processing

If you recognize it instead as "full bodied SIMULATION of complex courses

requires an extraordinary amount of cerebral and corporal space and
energy,

can only be understood by full-bodied simulation.
And a near instantaneous reply like
I CAN'T GO THIS WAY - I'LL HAVE TO GO ROUND THE BACK
is a wonder not of text processing, but of simulation.
