Big-Iron machines run in climate controlled air filtered environments.
Todays PCs don't even have an air filter to prevent dust from being accumulated
on all of the components.
Most PCs still use air cooling so all the air pulled through has any dust drawn
electrostatically to the motherboard, graphics cards, etc.,,
This accumulation of dust prevents the components from being cooled by the
airflow and eventually you get overheating and component failure.
I run a fast system that is overclocked and it requires monthly cleaning to
prevent frequent shutdowns due to heat.
Heat is the enemy of your computer, dust is the enemy of your computer.
In todays disposable economy they want you to replace your computer every 2-3
years but now that computers are fast enough for most casual computer users
computing needs as long as the computer
continues to meet your basic needs there is no longer a pressing need to
replace your system every 2-3 years unless it overheats and fries.
I have been told there are cases on the market equipped with air filters but
everytime I ask the boutique PC companies who build my systems they act like
they've never heard of it.
