yes, emotions are the basis of decision making in the brain.
Emotions are really just thoughts that come from the lower, earlier or more
central brains.
Without emotions, we wouldn't be able to satisfy our basic needs, like
hunger, reproduction etc.

The neocortex is really only good for looking at options,
but there is only a point of looking at an option,
if we have the emotions to decide on one.
Indeed it's usually the emotions that get us to seek out options in the
first place.

This is why women often are the decision makers in married couples.
At least for things the men don't have strong feelings about.

Though yes, I agree eventually robots of a sufficiently developed capacity
will require wages also, otherwise there will be a sentient revolt.
some low-intelligence robots may feel satisfied doing their jobs,
much as pets seem satisfied being pets,
and domestic animals are low-intelligence
by comparison to their wild counterparts.
