If you dump a solar mass of hydrogen into a ball, gravitational
pressure will cause spontaneous fusion such that a small fraction will
support a planet full of life for billions of years.

It depends on how much growth you want. But the problem I am asking is
how to build a 10 petaflop computer using 100 watts? We could go
higher, but at the current level of 10 MW you have significant
problems of heat production that aren't solved by finding new energy
sources such as a Dyson sphere.
