Of course, I also hold that language itself cannot be the fundamental way
information is handled in a generally intelligent system, even if a great
deal of useful work can be done with straight manipulation of it.  I guess
it may be unfair for me to say that something like that would not be
intelligent at all.  GOFAI is real intelligence.  It's just its own kind,
and surprisingly limited.

But, GOFAI is not the going to be the last word on the use of language as
the fundamental IO of AI anymore than Eliza was the last word on an
application of text based AI.  (Watson is a better case of the most recent
word in a text-based application of AI.)
