I really do benefit from having to answer insightful criticisms. I can learn a
little from shallow criticisms but they don't usually get to the subject
matter. Of course there are times I do the same but I try to provide some
actual substance even when I cannot get very far in understanding an
individual's ideas.
On the other hand, having thought about this so long, the crazy-based
criticisms (AGI needs non-algorithm algorithms) and the shallow snub-based
criticisms (I did not feel that your comments even deserved a response from me
so go wallow in your ignorance) are not going to move me very far.
I have come up with a few more insights about metaphors while shadow boxing
with Babian and I may be able to use them in my programming. Right now I have
to start with something extremely simple that will start acting like it had a
tiny bit of intelligence right away. But I cannot rely on the stock methods of
narrow AI. So in conclusion after a one sided argument about metaphors I have
come to the conclusion that they are a vehicle to convey information but they
can create ambiguity. If a text based program was able to convey enough of a
variety of information then the absence of visual metaphors is not going to be
a big deal for a pioneering research project because the problems of ambiguity
and conveying knowledge that can be insightfully integrated is what it is all
about. Jim Bromer
