There is almost endless naivete about the nature of intelligence in singularitarian predictions.
Yet another one that occurs to me is the failure to take into account that intelligence is embodied - esp true AGI is embodied. You can only understand and think about the bodies of the world by using your own body. The singularitarian fantasy of hyperaccelerated intelligence is based on notions of intelligence as abstract - basically logical and mathematical - notions which don't even apply to the growth of logic and maths. All the singularity will take, apparently, is an abstractly thinking hypercomputer. See the singularity as dependent on robotic/embodied progress and everything changes. Fabulous hypercomputers in the near future are not hard to imagine. But how long before we can create a robot with the awesome sophistication and complexity of the human body? How long before we can create an artificial cell even? Oh we are making progress here and will continue to make progress - but that progress will be nothing like the "before-I-die" scenarios on which singulariarians' psychologically-rooted fantasies depend.
