Probably the best way is to try for an extended transfer period.

Runners in a relay race have the best chance of a successful transfer
if they are close for a while during the transfer. If one zooms past
the other the baton has more chance of being dropped.

In the case of transferring civilization's existing knowledge, that
means either slowing down the machines, accelerating the humans,
or linking the humans and the machines together.

Slowing the machines down looks likely to be totally ineffective.
So: probably efforts should go into the other options.
