Well the used categorization to plot the personality features of
different people. so that is finding "subtle stuff" as far as I
understand it.

the subtle manipulations were genetically programmed, so they tested a
variety of different ads (stimulus) to different personality types to
see what would work the best to achieve the desired goal (click/like).

For now yes there is certainly a human element, but anything
repetitive can be automated away.

Like for instance the twitter and facebook bots which are currently
operated by a human supervisor. The human supervisor has to make some
unique posts and reply to accusations of being a bot so they get a
"pass" as being human.

In theory that part could also be automated, increasing the bot to
human operator ratio. Or even eliminating the need for human operators
outside of setting them up with a goal (if they could pass the online
equivalent of a turing test).

yep.

Cambridge Analytica style companies also generates derivative content,
such as videos and posts. Thus increasing the amount of apparent
supporters, even though it is just bots at work.

They have bots that reply to peoples posts, to drive certain opinions
as well on social media and news sites. not just Cambridge Analytica
but also the Russian propoganda machine.

I'm fairly sure a bot replied on my Facebook as an anti climate change
supporter, since they made generic anti-climate change statements and
disappeared when pressed if they were a bot.

Though who knows, maybe it was a human that didn't pass my personal
Turing test :-|.

Definitely! Politicians can't expect to win using old tech!
Eventually we could use it for AGI also.

Kennedy might have been the first TV president,
in the same way Trump was the first AI president,
though Kennedy wasn't a TV, nor is Trump an AI.

Without the AI propaganda machine, I'm fairly sure things would have
followed the popular expectation, UK would have stayed in the EU, and
Hillary would have been president.

In the same way that Kennedy would have probably lost if the media was
limited to radio.

Anyways, we have located the Illuminati attempting to dismantle the
world, Steve Bannon and Cambridge Analytica!

"Lenin, wanted to destroy the state, and that’s my goal too. I want to
bring everything crashing down, and destroy all of today’s
establishment.” -- Steve Bannon
http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2016/08/22/steve-bannon-trump-s-to
p-guy-told-me-he-was-a-leninist.html

So if China or whoever wants to save the establishment, will need to
provide a counter Cambridge Analytica's AI/MI/ML propoganda machine,
since UK and US seem to be in it's (and Steve Bannon's) hands.
Steve Bannon has mentioned China as one of his targets, which was
repeated by his pawn (Trump).

I would imagine you could probably tell whoever is your local Chinese
government informant and they'll tell the 3PLA. At least that's how it
was back in the Soviet Union, not sure if they adopted that whole
every tenth man is a spy for the government approach in China.

Do you know if OpenCog could be re-geared as such a propaganda machine?

Thanks
