Hi Ben, This is re your idea of post-embodiment AGI and the block's world environment. It might be possible to separate the AGI's sensory stream into a 3D "block's world" and a 2D "planar world". But I think there're some problems with it. One problem is that it may not be able to watch movies on a screen which requires interpreting planar images in 3D. It may have problems looking at 3D molecular modeling as well. Not to mention more sophisticated things like appreciating the strangeness of Escher's drawings.
Generally it seems that an AGI need to have a sensorium very similar to that of humans in order to have human-like cognition. Though, you may still experiment on the blocks world, but the question is whether the concepts that are learned in that world can be *reused* after your AGI is equipped with a more "natural" sensorium later. I may start developing a sensory (especially visual) interface that might be used by other AGI engines, using a webcam. But the project may take 1-2 years to start.
