I would add that previous more-or-less general AI
projects have not greatly exceeded their modest
expectations. So given this experience perhaps there
is a tendency among potential sponsors to classify new
AGI projects as crackpot schemes.
And let's be honest, a lot of the talk under the heading of AGI really is in crackpot territory; given the lack of concrete results, it's not unreasonable for a potential sponsor to conclude it's all like that.
