What proportion of the work that is being done do you believe you are
aware of? On what basis?
My suspicion is that most people on the track of something new tend to
be rather close about it. I'll agree that this probably slows down
progress, but from an individual person or corporation's point of view
it is quite sensible. For one thing, it minimizes the risks of humiliation.
