In practice the goals of the first AGIs will reflect those of the people who created it. As with our children, we will try to imbue some of our own aspirations and philosophies into these new cognitive engines - with varying degrees of success. Like a genie emerging from the computational bottleneck perhaps early AGIs will be tasked with maximizing the personal fortunes of those individuals involved in its creation.
