Consider 4 positions rather than two: 1) embodiment is strictly necessary for AGI 2) embodiment is highly convenient but not necessary for AGI 3) virtual-world embodiment is sufficient to make the path to powerful AGI relatively straightforward 4) physical-robot embodiment is needed to make the path to powerful AGI relatively straightforward These are not the only possible positions but are 4 interesting ones. There is no scientific proof that any of these is correct, actually. You seem to be advocating for 4; I am advocating for 3 (and 2 as well). And it seems very clear to me that we do not currently have scientific evidence adequate to distinguish 3 from 4. In fact 3 becomes somewhat fuzzy. I don't know how good a virtual world has to be to confer the same advantages as the physical world for AGI. Probably a bunch better than Second Life. But virtual worlds are getting better and better by the year, driven by the entertainment industry. -- Ben G ----- This list is sponsored by AGIRI: http://www.agiri.org/email To unsubscribe or change your options, please go to: http://v2.listbox.com/member/?member_id=8660244&id_secret=63988360-6a5ccc
