As an old lag I am constantly disappointed by the seemingly endless
parade of expensive and showy but ultimately useless and unintelligent
robots built by major companies. These are more like marketing tools
to get the company name into the tech headlines for a while rather
than serious attempts to produce intelligent physically embodied
machines. I often feel that the large amounts of money put into these
projects is effectively wasted since it contributes little to the
state of the art. In robotics seeing is not believing and it's very
easy to put on a brief two minute show which may appear superficially
impressive, but where there is little going on beneath the surface.
