That was interesting. I may (actually) read the paper "Hierarchical structure
and the prediction of missing
links in networks" at
http://www-personal.umich.edu/~mejn/papers/cmn08.pdf
I am not sure about what they are getting at, but an idealized model of the
hierarchal structure might be useful. There are probably more than one
idealized structural models for a complicated network. These models might be
used in AGI for reason-derived what-if kinds of conjectures.
