There seem to be at least two caveats to adding tasks with less then one full hour of time. From the "create a new task" link, if I don't put a zero in fron of ".5" - it doesn't appear to save the time. I have to explicitly put "0.5".
Secondly, from the Whiteboard "+" button, the quick entry form that comes up does not seem to accept fractions of an hour. "0.5" does not get saved.
