Heh, I've never noticed that because I don't generally use the
archives (since my Gmail account has all messages since I joined and a
mostly better interface, arguably except on mobile).

Don't have much else to say except I'd be happy to see you experiment,
and this conversation may motivate me to implement some stuff on my
end pretty soon, such as said rule browser.  If you do end up using
markup, it may be nice to use yaml if it makes sense (i.e. if what you
end up needing is primarily structured data rather than actually
marking up the text), since scshunt and I have both tried to maintain
some data that way, although it doesn't matter very much.
