Wouldn't lower-case "impossible" be more appropriate here? IMPOSSIBLE is defined as "Attempts to perform the described action are unsuccessful.". If the repeated crime is a side-effect of the criminal's true intent I don't know if it would count as an "attempt" to commit the crime.
