Skype does not use much at all. Atleast, not on my machine.
Jaws takes more then skype for example.

How much resources does skype take up? Like Brandon says, skype makes it 
easier on dial-up users- so if we went with teamtalk, it'd be leaving 
dial-up users out of the conversation which would be pretty cheesy.
