First of all, I just wanted to tell you that I love these mods. They're
just plain awesome.
The weird thing is that yesterday I had the exact same thought--remove the
taunts, so I say definitely go ahead with that. I wonder if it is the
number of sounds being loaded or the memory they take up, because if it's a
memory/buffer problem then we could cut some of the sounds in half, like the
slope sounds. I also have created a mod of sorts, a sound collection that
replaces the nav folder's default sounds. Instead of high hums for doors,
it uses the sounds of doors slamming. All the sounds are made very short,
so you could use them as well if it's just the amount of space used rather
than the number of sound files.
I don't really even know how to begin programming Quake, but if you need any
sound work done, let me know and I'll either make or modify sounds for the
game--but you seem to have that well in hand too.
Well, keep up the awesome work.
Ken

Subject: [AGRIP-discuss] Future of the Mod Packs revisited / Single / Multi
Player versions?...
Hi All, well you all may remember the dilemma with the sounds in Quake,
which made it impossible to run the latest Mod Pack (3.7 / 3.7.1) in
single player mode... I think I may have come up with a reasonable
work-around four the moment. I still don't know exactly what's causing
the problem, but I'm hoping this temporary solution will be palatable for
everybody.
Here's what I'm thinking; the taunts and death messages mods use quite a
few sounds. I could rather easily remove those mods, freeing up enough
game resources for probably three or four new mod packs, obviously
depending upon how many sounds are added to the game.
Would this be something you all wouldn't mind losing, considering that
it may be only temporary as I'll still look into a proper solution to the
prob?...
The second idea I had is this. If you'd rather not lose that particular
set of mods, We could have two versions of the Mod Pack, one for Death
Match, and one for Single Player. The single player version would not
have the taunts mods and the Death Match version still would.
This wouldn't necessarily allow for a whole lot of future development
for the death match side of things, as we'd still be using a whole lot of
sounds, and quite honestly, I don't know yet, where the exact limit of the
game is. So it's possible that this would allow for three or four new mod
Packs on either end of things, (sp or dm) but I honestly can't be sure.
What do you all think?...
Now, on the actual Mod Pack side of things, I'll be updating Mod Pack 3.7
to include the file that it should have had in the first place, and
eliminating Mod Pack 3.7.1. just for clarity's sake. I'll do this within
the hour, so just wanted to let you all know, so you weren't wondering
where 3.7.1 had gone to. <smile> For those of you who've already
installed either Mod Pack and have it working successfully, you won't need
to do a thing. The next Mod Pack will install fine, over what you have
now...
Just wanted to let you all know....
Any thoughts or suggestions as always, would be greatly appreciated!...
Thanks for your time, and have a great day!...
Smiles,
Mod Girl
