Some good news for you on the opening-up-the-AGRIP-project front. I think that we have found a service we can use to both make the development process involve you and your feedback in a much more efficient way and make it easier at the same time! It also seems infinitely more accessible than the venerable SourceForge, which hosts many, many other Free Software projects.
Launchpad is a service run by the people that make the Ubuntu GNU/Linux distribution that is designed to make developing Free Software (such as AudioQuake and its associated tools and services) easier. It does this by handling all sorts of things for us -- bug tracking, support, code development, feature suggestions and their implementation and even translations into other languages. We have started setting up shop on Launchpad and will keep you updated as to how it is going. When we're ready, you will be able to start reporting bugs and feature suggestions to us through it. You can also use it to ask questions and the answers will be available as a searchable knowledge base and FAQ for new users to refer to. There is a ``however'', though! As we've said many times on our mailing lists, we will need members of the community to join us on Launchpad too, so that the experienced members of the AQ community can help answer questions and report bugs and test the fixes we give out. When we move on to other things (such as map editing system) after releasing 0.3.0 we can leave these things in your capable hands. We're also considering moving to a new version control system that may promote more community-based development and are testing this at the moment. It is important to stress that everyone can develop mods for the game if they so desire and we want to ensure that all mods are developed separately to core AQ, so that the code remains small yet provides features for external people to make mods easily. However, for those that want to edit core AQ and the ZQuake engine, we're considering this new system. In other news, Sebby appears to be making progress with the windows side of the 0.3.0 release and when it has been made we will look into fully opening the Stats and Servers infrastructure as well as then moving on to do map editing ourselves, leaving core AQ and SnS to the community to continue developing. Thanks for your time and interest in reading this! best regards, -- Matthew Tylee Atkinson <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> _______________________________________________ AGRIP-discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.agrip.org.uk/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/agrip-discuss
