Hi Matthew and all!
I have a program called Reg scrub XP. I hadn't run it in a long time, but I
decided to do a full-on assault on these errors in Quake. I ran every spyware
and antivirus program I Had but nothing worked. Then I ran Regscrub. It found
893 bugs in the registry and fixed them all--and now I'm playing Quake error
free! I am about to see if it'll let me play with mods.
I know many of you are better than me at Quake--I haven't had much DM practice
in a long time so I'm rusty--but if any of you are interested I will do
walkthroughs of the first two maps in Episode 1. Yall miss a lot when all you
do is death matches. I like the puzzles and I'm getting better and better at
navigating.
I've recently uploaded a folder containing new sounds. I believe, but I'm not
sure, that among them is a shorter marker sound that is less harsh. It's a
quick blip, and I'm using them as signals. No matter where you are on a level,
the markers play as you pressed them, so if I find a dead end I set down two
markers quickly. A door opened elsewhere gets one marker. A door I've already
been through gets one then a pause then three quickly--blip, blip blip blip. I
am working out other signals too.
I'll let you know if I can come up with any new strategies. I'm modifying
certain sounds and will be uploading a new nav.zip file soon, so stay tuned. I
don't have a clue how to mod the game itself, but if there are any sounds you
want changed or modified, let me know. I want to make this game as imersive as
I can--and maybe I'll start modding some day, who knows. There are certainly a
lot of things I'd like to improve, like the panning of wall scrapes, and a
small blip that tells you if you're headed straight down a passage--but I'm a
rookie when it comes to coding.
Anyway, keep on quaking!
