Yeah, I know it'll be possible by adding an ajaxmethod, but that means
modifying my webservices & recompiling them also.

It should be (or was in the past) possible to use existing webservices
without modifications by adding
<remove verb="*" path="*.asmx" />
<add verb="*" path="*.asmx" type="AjaxPro.AjaxHandlerFactory, AjaxPro"
/>

to the httphandlers section
You should then be able to get the json result by calling the
webservice with ?AJAX as querystring.
