You can call a pure webservice from JavaScript using the SOAP protocol but there is no implementation for this in Ajax.NET. Have a look at http://www.mathertel.de/AJAXEngine or read the AJAX book available at http://www.mathertel.de/Ajax/AJAXeBook.aspx. You can find a generator that gives you a JavaScript proxy for webservices based on the wsdl specification for the webservice. This approach is portable to other plattforms (J...) as well.
