since you asked about git send-email earlier, one thing that i like to
do for a bunch of patches is to use --cover-letter.  that'll appear as
a [PATCH 0/4] which is purely informational.  then if you send out a
revised patchset, you can just do the --in-reply-to from the
cover-letter.
