Akka Persistence is *experimental* in the 2.3.x release series, however we have seen and worked with customers who have had it in production for about a year now and have been really happy with it. So yes, it's pretty stable and used in the wild world.
Having that said, we are currently working on bringing Persistence into Akka 2.4 where it will become a fully supported module. I don't have an exact time line for 2.4, however it can be measured in a few months, and we do release milestones every few weeks already (M1 is already out, but without the finished Persistence module).
