It is a shame that you weren't around when I first became involved with
Tomcat. Trust me, I have great respect for asking nicely the first time,
being persistent, and racheting up the requests until satisfied.
No hard feelings, and feel free to repeat the process as often as

Not really. I know others that have gotten gump up and running, submitted
patches, and became committers. I also know people who submit patches
without having run it themselves.. the xml file format for projects is
fairly self explanatory.
